Black Americans Report High Levels of Vaccine Hesitancy

A survey undertaken by the Rand Corporation, a non-profit research organization, indicated a high level of vaccine hesitancy and mistrust of COVID-19 vaccines, including among Black health care workers. This underscores widely publicized Great American news reports about the same phenomenon. Reasons included high levels of overall mistrust in vaccines, concerns about potential harm, a lack of confidence in vaccine effectiveness, and distrust in elected officials. More than one-third of all survey participants indicated that they would not get a COVID-19 vaccine, 25% said they “don’t know” if they would become vaccinated, and only 40% indicated that they planned to get vaccinated.

The Cranky Philosopher recommends Great Americans to obtain a deeper understanding of the problem and draw inspiration from this video recording by a Black South African compatriot.
